The Lil’ NK Explosion select soccer team, coached by Sean Lloyd and Vladimir Sokol, won all five of its games at the Marysville Strawberry Classic Tournament Aug. 1-3, to win it all. The Lil’ Explosion swept four games, 3-0, 8-0, 7-0, and 10-0, and the boys were in first place heading into the finals game against Pacific Premier Red. The Lil’ Explosion won the finals, 5-2. This is the Explosion’s second tournament win of the season, having also taken first place honors in the Poulsbo Viking Cup. Next stop is the Snohomish Bigfoot Tournament Aug. 14-17.

But rather than winning thanks to an opponent’s blown propellor, an incident that sealed her win last year, Perkins topped Greg Hopp by a longshot to repeat as Silverdale Thunder champion, now her fourth career win.

Thanks to the success of its inaugural season, NABA (North American Baseball Association) Westsound is forming a fall men’s hardball league. Both tryouts are from noon to 2 p.m. There is a $10 tryout fee. The fall league, which is a wood bat league, will feature an eight-game season plus playoffs with each team fielding a maximum of 12 players. All games will be played at noon or 3 p.m. on Sundays with the exception of one to-be-determined Saturday. The league costs $195 per player, which covers insurance, umpire fees, field rentals and more. All games will be played at Snider Park and other fields. “Growing up in Southern California, there’s a basketball hoop every other block,” Uffens said. “We were always playing pick-up games, street ball. Just all day long on those courts.
