Volleyball nets are down, making way for winter sports, but there’s still plenty to reflect on for the area’s top netters. Fittingly, the 2008 season culminated in Silverdale at the Fairgrounds pavilion, where the Class 4A and Class 3A district tournaments were played.

POULSBO — As of Monday morning, it was official. Andy Smith, a senior at North Kitsap High, will be taking to the diamond next year as a University of Washington Husky. While neither Bremerton nor King’s West made postseason splashes, both volleyball teams showed promise during the 2008 season. Absent key contributors from last year’s state tournament team, the Lady Warriors fell shy of their preseason goal to qualify for the Tri-District Tournament. Instead, KW (11-6) lost consecutive games in the 2B SeaTac League Tournament, ending the season prematurely. But the Lady Warriors are hungry for a strong 2009 and with a core group of returnees, should once again find postseason success.
While the Warriors turn to former King’s West girls coach David Kerkhoff to now guide the boys team to postseason success, Bremerton is ready for an Olympic League run under the watch of coach Casey Lindberg.
Welcome to Bremerton, Kitsap Pumas.
