North Kitsap second, Kingston fourth at Port Angeles meet

PORT ANGELES — North Kitsap and Kingston traveled up to the Olympic Peninsula this past weekend to compete with gymnasts from a combined Port Angeles/Sequim/Crescent team and North Thurston at Klahhane Gymnastics.

The Vikings gymnasts ended up taking second overall with 161 points while Kingston finished fourth with 86.30. North Thurston won the meet with 173.30 while Port Angeles/Sequim/Crescent finished third with 154.75.

North Kitsap’s Junko Ketch was the top local gymnast in the All-Around, finishing fourth with a score of 33.50 from four events. Ketch finished fourth in bars (8.80), fourth in the floor exercises (9.10), tied for seventh in the vault (8.20) and tied for 11th in beam (8.40).

Right behind Ketch was Kelsey Derr, who finished sixth with a score of 32.50. Jordyn Lovett took ninth with an average of 32.20, Grace Billings finished 11th (31.50) and Angeleana Golden was 13th (30.20). Kingston’s top All-Around gymnast was Anna Quinn, who finished 18th with a score of 27.70. Haley Smith of North Thurston was the overall winner.

Billings of North Kitsap had the highest finish among locals in any individual event, picking up third place in the vault with an 8.60 while Ketch’s 9.10 in the floor exercises was the highest score.

North Kitsap’s Sienna Taylor, along with Ketch, finished tied for seventh in the vault with scores of 8.20. Lovett was tied for 13th with an even 8.00 and Derr finished tied for 20th with Quinn at 7.40.

In the balance beam, North Kitsap’s five scoring gymnasts were Kelsey Derr (8.7, tied for fifth), Billings (8.6, tied for seventh), Golden (8.6, tied for seventh) Lovett (8.5, tied for ninth) and Ketch (8.4, tied for 11th). For Kingston, it was Quinn (8.5, tied for ninth), Elli Falen (7.1, 22nd), Fiona Schmid (6.8, 25th), Aubrey Black (6.5, tied for 28th) and Julianna Jafek (6.5, tied for 28th).

Ketch (8.80, fourth), Derr (7.50), Lovett (7.30), Golden (6.20) and Billings (5.80) led North Kitsap to second place in the balance beam. Falen was the top performer for Kingston with a 4.20, followed by Schmid (3.70), Peri Anderson (3.30) and Jewelie Hagerman (3.00).

Ketch was also the top performer for North Kitsap on the floor with her fourth place score of 9.10. Derr (8.90), Billings (8.50), Lovett (8.40) and Sienna Taylor (8.30) combined to score 34.60 for second place in this event. Quinn led Kingston with a 7.80 score, followed by Schmid (7.00), Falen, (6.00), Jafek (6.00) and Aubrey Black (5.9).
