North Kitsap boys basketball

Head coach: Scott Orness

2016-17 record: 21-6

Top returning players: Zac Olmstead, guard, senior; Kai Warren, guard, senior; Ryan Hecker, wing, senior; Shaa Humphrey, wing, sophomore.

Key newcomers: Kobe McMillian, sophomore; Derek Zinn, senior; Connor King, junior; Logan Chmielewski, sophomore.

Outlook: With plenty of size, speed, skill and experience, big things are expected for this team in 2017-18. Olmstead, the Carleton College-commit and reigning Olympic League MVP returns to lead a team that finished second at districts and sixth in the state last season. With plenty of athleticism abound, expect North to run the floor well and play strong defense as it looks to win its fourth consecutive league championship, take home the top prize at districts and finish in the top five at the state tournament.

Schedule: Dec. 2, 2 p.m., Decatur (at Auburn Riverside) | Dec. 6, 7 p.m., Bremerton | Dec. 8, 7 p.m., Port Angeles | Dec. 12, 7 p.m., Olympic | Dec. 15, 7 p.m. at North Mason | Dec. 28-30, TBD, UVIC Vikes Tournament | Jan. 5, 7 p.m., Sequim | Jan. 6, 5 p.m., Franklin Pierce | Jan. 9, 7 p.m. at Kingston | Jan. 12, 7 p.m. at Olympic | Jan. 16, 7 p.m., Port Townsend | Jan. 19, 7 p.m., Kingston | Jan. 23, 7 p.m. at Bremerton | Jan. 26, 7 p.m., North Mason | Jan. 30., 7:15 p.m. at Port Angeles | Feb. 1, 7:15 p.m. at Sequim.
