Anacortes knocks N. Kitsap girls out at state

North Kitsap’s girls volleyball team stunned Washington in three sets Friday in a state tournament match starting at 7 a.m.

It was the biggest upset at state as North Kitsap was seeded 12th and Washington fifth. The 2A State Tournament is taking place in Yakima at the SunDome.

However, after losing to Burlington-Edison last night and Anacortes earlier today the Vikings were knocked out of the tournament.

The Vikings won their first match against the Patriots in three hard-fought sets 25-20, 25-23 and 25-22.

But the Vikings lost their quarterfinal game to fourth-seeded Burlington-Edison later in the day to be knocked into the loser’s bracket.

Against B-E, North Kitsap really wasn’t in any of the games, falling 25-14, 25-16 and 25-14.

The Vikings didn’t do any better against Anacortes this morning, also losing in three sets 25-19, 25-11 and 25-15.

Seniors on coach Kaelea Makaiwi’s squad include: 6-footer Maliyah Reed; 5-9 Kate Ryan; 5-7 Elle Fultz; 5-5 Emma Stephens; and 5-2 Allie Kelley.
