All remaining Kitsap softball teams have been eliminated from their respective state tournaments.
Kingston and Olympic were eliminated in the 2A bracket while Klahowya lost in 1A.
The No. 5 seed Trojans won their opening game at of the tournament in Selah May 23 12-4 over No. 12 seed Euphrata, but then lost their next two games against No. 4 seed Aberdeen 10-0 and No. 7 seed Selah 6-1.
The No. 13 seed Buccaneers lost their opening game 12-1 against Aberdeen, and then lost a close, high-scoring battle 13-10 against Euphrata.
The No. 6 seed Eagles won their first game against No. 11 seed Connell 14-4 May 22 in Richland, but then lost its next two games May 23 4-3 against No. 3 seed Cedar Park Christian and 4-2 to No. 2 seed Royal.
Brenda Morrison was the key force in the Trojans’ win against Euphrata, providing a spark on the mound and at the plate. She struggled on the mound in the first inning, loading the bases with no outs and letting up an RBI single to give Ephrata an early 1-0 lead.
Nonetheless, the Trojan bats got to work in the bottom of the first, loading the bases themselves, including a Morrison double to right field. However, Olympic couldn’t put up a score with center fielder Sophia Brown flying out to right field.
Morrison continued her struggles on the mound in the top of the second inning, letting two Tigers reach second and third base. But the Trojans were able to escape the inning without letting up any runs and kept the game at 1-0 entering the top of the third. Morrison kept the game in reach for the Trojans, forcing three quick outs in the top of the fourth.
The Trojan bats began to find some momentum with a Bella Crowell two-run home run, giving Olympic its first lead of the day at 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth. The Tigers responded by quickly tying the game back up at three apiece off an RBI double to center field.
Morrison then came up huge at the plate with a solo home run to left field in the bottom of the fifth, and Brown hit an RBI double, giving Olympic its largest lead of the game at 6-3 in the bottom of the fifth. Left fielder Paige Gordon added to the high-scoring inning with a grand slam, increasing the lead to 10-3.
Center fielder Beya Richmond added on later in the game with another home run to left field in the bottom of the sixth, increasing the Trojans’ lead to 12-4 and sealing the victory.
In the Kingston game, starting pitcher Summer Moore struggled in the bottom of the first, throwing 46 pitches and letting up four runs off four hits.
Moore began to rebound in the bottom of the second, only letting up one additional run through an RBI single to left field while walking two batters. The Bobcats hit a home run and added two RBI singles in the bottom of the third, giving themselves a 10-0 lead and warranting a pitching change from Moore to Kaiya Laroche-Wellman.
The Bucs struggled offensively throughout the game, only scoring one run.
