North Kitsap climbs state AP rankings: With its 49-6 victory over Olympic on Sept. 21, North Kitsap moves up one spot from No. 8 to No. 7 in the latest 2A rankings released by the Associated Press on Sept. 27. The Vikings (4-0) take on Sequim (2-2) on Sept. 29 at North Kitsap Stadium.

Bremerton girls soccer captures fourth win of season: After a winless 2016, the Bremerton girls soccer team has seen vast improvement as it defeated Port Townsend on Sept. 26 to improve its record to 4-2 on the season, 2-2 in league play. Lucy Holloway recorded a goal and two assists and Hailey Musslewhite and Abby Dubeau also scored for Bremerton. Keeper Alyissa Hansel recorded her third clean sheet of the season.

Olympic takes over top spot in 2A: A pair of 1-0 victories over North Kitsap and Port Angeles this past week have put the Trojans on top for now. Olympic will play the two schools one more time each on Oct. 10 and 12, two matches that could go a long way towards determining a league championship winner.

North Kitsap volleyball stays ahead of the competition: The Vikings still have a one-game lead over Bremerton in the Olympic 2A League and did nothing to jeopardize it with victories over Sequim and North Mason last week. Riley Rabedeaux recorded 16 kills in a sweep of North Mason, and Autumn Carver and Noey Barreith contributed 10 and 9 respectively. Rae Rosenquist tallied 29 assists. Against North Mason, Rabedeaux once again paced the Vikings with 13 kills and Taylor Clodfelder added seven kills and six blocks. After a tough non-league contest against Bainbridge, North Kitsap takes on Port Angeles, Kingston and Bremerton.

Fall and Winter Horseshoe Pitching League begins in October: Fall and Winter Horseshoe Pitching League competition begins 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 7 at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds. Beginners are welcome. The action takes place next to the Swine Barn.

Support Pink Night at South Kitsap High School: Travel down to Port Orchard for Pink Night at South Kitsap as the girls soccer team takes on Sumner High School at Kitsap Bank Stadium. The Oct. 5 event starts at 7 p.m. and kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. There will be raffle drawings and prize giveaways. Donate to a great cause.
