Kingston goes 1-1 at district tourney

The Kingston girls volleyball team easily won its first contest at the 2A Bi-District tournament at Franklin Pierce High School.

But they lost their second match to be knocked out of the tourney.

The 10th-seeded Buccaneers easily defeated 16th seeded Lindbergh in their first contest. The Eagles had trouble with their return of serve throughout the match, never really getting their offense on track.

The Bucs won the first game 25-9 and sailed through the second game 25-6. Lindbergh put up a fight in the third set, tying it at 13-13. Junior Grace Mosco served a number of points in a row, but the Eagles hung right in there making it 20-20.

But freshman Quiterie Lemieux’s spike put Kingston ahead to stay 21-20, and the Bucs ended up winning 25-20.

In their next match, just two hours later, Kingston took on eighth-seeded Sequim in a loser-out game. The Wolves had just lost to top-seeded Washington in three close sets.

The two squads battled it out, but Sequim ended up winning in four sets 25-23, 12-25, 25-21 and 25-18, knocking Kingston out of the tournament.
