Girls basketball teams are ready to dunk their competition

GIRLS BASKETBALL

Bainbridge

2021 record: (7-9, 6-8)

Head coach: Karen Byers

Key returners: Senior Ghadir Ramadan

Outlook: Many of the Spartan starters graduated. However, Ramadan has been a wrecking force in the paint. She averaged nine rebounds last season with a few games over 20.

Schedule: Nov. 30, 7:15 pm at Mercer Island; Dec. 2, 7:30 pm vs. Mt. Tahoma; Dec. 6, 7 pm vs. Sequim; Dec. 9, 7 pm vs. North Kitsap; Dec. 13, 7 pm at Kingston; Dec. 15, 7 pm vs. Port Angeles; Jan. 3, 7 pm vs. Bremerton; Jan. 6, 7 pm at North Mason; Jan. 10, 7 pm vs. Olympic; Jan. 12, 7 pm at Sequim; Jan. 17, 7 pm at North Kitsap; Jan. 19, 7 pm Kingston; Jan. 24, 7 pm at Port Angeles; Jan. 26, 7 pm at Bremerton; Jan. 31, 7 pm vs. North Mason; Feb. 2, 7 pm at Olympic

Bremerton

2021 record: (5-11, 4-10)

Head coach: Nancy Harris

Key returners: Senior Tulip Carter

Outlook: Bremerton is another team losing most of its squad to graduation. The team also had no all-league selections last year except Tulip Carter’s back-to-back sportsmanship awards. Therefore, the lack of experience will harm the Knights this season.

Schedule: Nov. 29, 7 pm vs. Anacortes; Dec. 6, 7 pm vs. Port Angeles; Dec. 8, 7 pm at Sequim; Dec. 13, 7 pm at North Mason; Dec. 15, 7 pm vs. Olympic; Jan. 3, 7 pm at Bainbridge; Jan. 5, 7 pm at North Kitsap; Jan. 10, 7 pm vs. Kingston; Jan. 12, 7 pm at Port Angeles; Jan. 17, 7 pm vs. Sequim; Jan. 19, 7 pm vs. North Mason; Jan. 24, 7 pm at Olympic; Jan. 26, 7 pm vs. Bainbridge; Jan. 31, 7 pm vs. North Kitsap; Feb. 2, 7 pm at Kingston

Central Kitsap

2021 record: (7-11, 4-9)

Head coach: Kari Driskell

Key returners: Senior Jada Kopp

Outlook: CK returns five forwards from last season, allowing them to dominate in the paint. However, they only have three guards returning and a new coach. Therefore, questions will loom about which path the Cougars will head this season.

Schedule: Nov. 29, 7 pm vs. North Kitsap; Dec. 7, 7 pm vs. Peninsula; Dec. 9, 7 pm at North Thurston; Dec. 14, 7 pm vs. Gig Harbor; Jan. 4, 7 pm at Timberline; Jan. 6, 7 pm vs. Yelm; Jan. 11, 7 pm vs. Capital; Jan. 13, 7 pm at Peninsula; Jan. 18, 7 pm vs. North Thurston; Jan. 20, 7 pm at Gig Harbor; Jan. 25, 7 pm at River Ridge; Jan. 27, 7 pm vs. Timberline; Jan. 31, 7 pm at Yelm; Feb. 2, 7 pm at Capital

Kingston

2021 record: (11-10, 7-7)

Head coach: Charles Deam

Key returner: Junior Kylie Sandstrom

Outlook: Kingston brings back a young core led by scorer Sandstrom. The squad averaged around 40 points per game last season. Therefore, the Buccaneers must find elite scorers or a strong defense if they want to keep trending upward.

Schedule: Dec. 1, 7:15 pm at Burlington-Edison; Dec. 3, 2 pm vs. Squalicum; Dec. 6, 7 pm at North Mason; Dec. 8, 7 pm at Olympic; Dec. 9, 7 pm at Klahowya; Dec. 13, 7 pm vs. Kingston; Dec. 15, 7 pm at North Kitsap; Dec. 17, 3 pm vs. Neah Bay; Dec. 20, 7 pm vs. Foster; Jan. 3, 7 pm vs. Sequim; Jan. 5, 7 pm vs. Port Angeles; Jan. 10, 7 pm at Bremerton; Jan. 12, 7 pm vs. North Mason; Jan. 17, 7 pm vs. Olympic; Jan. 19, 7 pm at Bainbridge; Jan. 24, 7 pm vs. North Kitsap; Jan. 26, 7 pm at Sequim; Jan. 31, 7 pm at Port Angeles; Feb. 2, 7 pm vs. Bremerton

Klahowya

2021 record: (15-9, 11-3)

Head coach: Chris Koebelin

Key returners: Seniors Sahara Soufi, Lindsey Templeton, and junior Paige Spandler

Outlook: Klahowya’s senior-heavy squad fell a few games short of the playoffs last season. This season, they will look to reset with only three players returning. Luckily, Soufi is one of the returners. She finished third on the team in scoring and second in assists. Therefore, the Eagles have the backbone to help lead to another successful season.

Schedule: Dec. 2, 7 pm at East Jefferson; Dec. 6, 7 pm vs. Annie Wright; Dec. 9, 7 pm at Kingston; Dec. 13, 7 pm vs. Fife; Dec. 16, 7 pm at Charles Wright; Dec. 20, 7 pm at North Mason; Dec. 22, 7 pm vs. Olympic; Jan. 3, 7 pm vs. Cascade Christian; Jan. 5, 7 pm at Vashon Island; Jan. 7, 3 pm vs. Life Christian; Jan. 10, 7 pm vs. Bellevue Christian; Jan. 13, 7 pm vs. East Jefferson; Jan. 17, 7 pm at Annie Wright; Jan. 19, 5:30 pm vs. Seattle Christian; Jan. 24, 7 pm vs. Charles Wright; Jan. 27, 5:30 pm at Cascade Christian; Jan. 31, 7 pm vs. Vashon Island; Feb. 3, 5:45 pm at Life Christian; Feb. 7, 7 pm at Bellevue Christian

North Kitsap

2021 record: (15-7, 10-4)

Head coach: Karla DeVries

Key returners: Senior Sophia Baugh and junior Evelyn Beers

Outlook: Baugh and Beers were sharpshooters last season, leading the Vikings to wild victories over opponents. Their offense scored over 60 points in six games. If the Vikings can find a player to dominate in the paint, they will be a tough team to beat.

Schedule: Nov. 29, 7 pm at Central Kitsap; Dec. 1, 7 pm at Clover Park; Dec. 6, 7 pm vs. Olympic; Dec. 9, 7 pm at Bainbridge; Dec. 13, 7 pm vs. Sequim; Dec. 15, 7 pm vs. Kingston; Dec. 16, 7 pm vs. La Conner; Dec. 27, 5:30 pm at Bethel; Jan. 3, 7 pm at Port Angeles; Jan. 5, 7 pm vs. Bremerton; Jan. 10, 7 pm vs. North Mason; Jan. 12, 7 pm at Olympic; Jan. 17, 7 pm vs. Bainbridge; Jan. 19, 7 pm at Sequim; Jan. 24, 7 pm at Kingston; Jan. 26, 7 pm vs. Port Angeles; Jan. 31, 7 pm at Bremerton; Feb. 2, 7:15 pm at North Mason

Olympic

2021 record: 0-18

Head coach: Kelsey Callaghan

Key returners: Seniors Kayla Brehmer, Mailli Bode, Kylee Murphy

Outlook: In nearly 40% of their games, the Trojans scored 35 points or less. Olympic lacks an offensive threat as Brehmer returns as the leading scorer after tallying in double figures a handful of games. A bright side is the Trojans lost just three players to graduation.

Schedule: Nov. 29, 7 pm vs. Shelton; Dec. 1, 7 pm at Foss; Dec. 3, 7 pm at Crosspoint Academy; Dec. 6, 7 pm at North Kitsap; Dec. 8, 7 pm vs. Kingston; Dec. 13, 7 pm vs. Port Angeles; Dec. 15, 7 pm at Bremerton; Dec. 20, 7 pm vs. fife; Dec. 22, 7 pm at Klahowya; Dec. 29, 7 pm vs. River Ridge; Jan. 3, 7 pm vs. North Mason; Jan. 5, 7 pm at Sequim; Jan. 10, 7 pm at Bainbridge; Jan. 12, 7 pm vs. North Kitsap; Jan. 17, 7 pm at Kingston; Jan. 19, 7 pm at Port Angeles; Jan. 24, 7 pm vs. Bremerton; Jan. 26, 7:15 pm at North Mason; Jan. 31, 7 pm vs. Sequim; Feb. 2, 7 pm vs. Bainbridge

South Kitsap

2021 record: (3-15, 1-7)

Head coach: CJ Scott

Key returners: Senior Alycia Loudermilk and juniors Kamdyn Hagerty and Grace Degarimore

Outlook: SK’s young lineup is finally upperclassmen and looks to add more firepower to the offense. Hagerty returns as the leading scorer and rebounder, averaging 6.9 ppg and 7.4 rpg. Degarimore is ranked second in both of those categories with 6.5 ppg and 5.5 rpg. Loudermilk will be the spark after averaging 2.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game.

Schedule: Dec. 2, 7 pm vs. Rogers; Dec. 6, 7 pm at Olympia; Dec. 8, 7 pm vs. Graham-Kaposwin; Dec. 14, 7 pm at Bethel; Dec. 16, 7 pm at Sumner; Dec. 27, 7:30 pm at Mt. Tahoma; Jan. 5, 7 pm vs. Puyallup; Jan. 7, 7 pm vs. Bellarmine Prep; Jan. 11, 7 pm at Curtis; Jan. 13, 7 pm at Emerald Ridge; Jan. 17, 7 pm vs. Sumner; Jan. 19, 7 pm at Puyallup; Jan. 25, 7 pm at Bellarmine Prep; Jan. 27, 7 pm vs. Curtis
