• Overview: Gig Harbor is the favorite to win 4A Narrows, but Olympia looks like a strong prospect to secure one of the league’s three playoff spots and possibly return to state for the first time since 2011. The Bears’ defense allowed the fewest (17.5) points per game in 4A Narrows in 2013 — they ranked third last year — and only have surrendered one touchdown through their first two games. Beattie’s offenses the last few seasons have not been quite as strong, but that could change this year as Scott Gunther is back and running behind a veteran line. The Bears won 28 consecutive regular-season league games before the Wolves defeated them 10-6 in 2009. Despite that, beating the Bears always has presented a challenge for South. Since the programs began meeting on a yearly basis in 2007, Olympia has won seven of the eight meetings. The Wolves’ lone win in the series required an 82-yard fake punt run for a touchdown by Leon La Deaux.
