Organizing a tournament for more than 1,500 competitors can be a challenge.
But if early feedback is any indication, that feat was pulled off quite nicely by Northwest washington Wrestling Club’s Chuck Bullard and Michael Cuzzetto of USA Everett, the co-directors of the Washington State Wrestling Association’s State Folkstyle Champions.
The tournament, which featured wrestlers from 35-pound Pee Wees up to 264.5-pound Seniors, saw many area wrestlers perform well at the Kitsap Fairgrounds Pavilion this weekend.
As a team, the NWWC finished fourth overall with USA Everett winning.
In the Midget 95-pound class, Kole Milyard took a state title while both Adam Burchett (70) and Jake Velarde (84) both took first at their respective weights in the Schoolboy/Girl division. In Cadet competition, Michael Neiner took a state crown at 160 and Nicholas Whitesett won the 285 title.
Bremerton’s Billy Richardson was the final NWWC titleist, winning the Junior division’s 119-pound bracket.
Velarde was named Outstanding Wrestler for his division while Bullard was honored with the Outstanding Years of Service award.
