BHS swimmers dominating early season meets

The Bainbridge High School girls swim and dive team is undefeated this year, even after taking on the defending 3A state champion.

The Spartans defeated Bellevue Sept. 18 in a non-league dual meet and then went on to win the 2021 Mukilteo Invitational at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, which is where the high school state championships are held each year.

Not content with just winning the meet, two Spartan relay teams set meet records. In the 200-yard medley relay, freshman Tierney Lenahan, junior Emma Solseng, sophomore Kathryn Houseman and freshman Alexa McDevitt put up a time of 1:47.43. Then in the 200-yard freestyle relay, Solseng, Houseman, McDevitt and freshman Piper Majors completed the race in 1:39.91.

Majors was also victorious in the 200-yard free individual event (1:57.28), Lenahan took top honors in the 100-yard backstroke (57.53) and freshman Sammy Segerson raced to a win in the 200-yard individual medley (2:06.60).

Bainbridge has already qualified all three of its relays for the 3A state meet, and eight swimmers have qualified for individual events, including Solseng, Houseman, McDevitt, Lenahan, Majors, Sammy Segerson, Sophie Segerson and Margaret Hayes.

Spartan divers will take place in a number of qualifying events in October.
