BHS gets by NK golfers in winter-like weather

Playing conditions were rough at the Port Ludlow Golf Course April 11 as the Bainbridge and North Kitsap golf teams trekked through sheets of ice, layers of hail and several puddles throughout the course.

Despite the conditions, the Bainbridge boys and girls teams swept NK.

The Spartan boys defeated the Vikings 171-205. The Spartans showed consistency with five of the six players shooting a 44 or better through nine holes. Andrew Grinter led the Spartans with a 41 while Andrew Jobes fell one behind with a 42. Dane Byers, Rylan Libes and Ryan Sturham all shot a 44. But only Byers and Sturham’s scores counted for the team’s total score.

North Kitsap’s Mac MacKinnon tied Grinter for the best score with a 41. No. 6 golfer Ryan Hendricks made his varsity debut and finished with the second-best score with a 53, meaning he will stay on the varsity lineup for their next match against Kingston.

Jake Poggi began to work on a new swing and has been fixing some bugs in his game. Therefore, one of the top Viking golfers finished with a 55. Kwame Jagodzinske rounded out the boys scores with a 56.

On the girls side, the Spartans won 190-252. Spartan Elise Walters led the pack with a 41 through nine holes. Haley Fink scored a 49, and Mai Wysong and Grace Charintranont each scored a 50.

Viking Calia Corden was the top performer with a 54. Abbey Smart shot a 64, Olivia Desmond a 65 and Leila Hanson a 69.
