Bainbridge beats NK in tennis

The Bainbridge Spartans and North Kitsap Vikings girls tennis teams battled each other down to the wire.

In the seven varsity matches, there were 12 ties, 10 lead changes and two tiebreakers.

The final match was Spartans Katherine Walker and Serena Hinshaw battling North Kitsap’s Ellie Stanford and Ava Obernberger.

North Kitsap took the early 1-0 lead in the first set. Bainbridge quickly took a 3-2 lead before NK reclaimed the lead and pushed it to the end. After tying it up, Bainbridge won in a 7-6 tiebreaker.

In the second set, the Vikings won 6-4 after taking an early 5-2 lead. During the Spartans comeback, the two were locked with five straight deuces before NK took the set.

Bainbridge won the final tiebreaker 11-9.

Bainbridge’s Zoe Bellas and Xin Munson defeated Noelle Oberhultzer and Avery Kline 6-4 and 7-5. Spartans’ Aya Gattal and Ruby Morrow defeated Julia Beatty and Tiffany Le 7-5 and 6-1.

Bainbridge finished the doubles sweep when Malia Lemieux and Elle Schuchman defeated Beckham Ochs and Olivia Cary 6-1 and 6-1.

North Kitsap won two of the three singles matches. Vikings’ ace Teegan DeVries swept Bainbridge’s Izzy Wallin 6-0 and 6-0 while Viking Elaina Soboleski won 7-5 and 6-2 over Kristina Walker.

Bainbridge’s Cece Combs defeated Tyra Zeety in the third singles match 6-3 and 6-1 as BHS won the overall match 5-2.
