It didn’t take long did it?
Even though it seems the calendar year just turned over into 2008, we’re already into the postseason beginning LAST weekend.
Well, if you need to play catch-up as much as I do for the remainder of the winter sports season, then let this be a guide — albeit a short one — to playoffs past and upcoming.
Beginning in the world of girls bowling, both CK and Olympic have bowled their teams back to state, which began yesterday and continues this morning at Narrows Lanes in Tacoma. And while Klahowya wasn’t able to go as a full squad, both senior Chelsea Schmittler and freshman Carys Bailey advanced individually.
It could be a banner year for area bowlers, as Bailey was first at districts in overall average and all three schools have bowlers who at any given time can hit 200 or higher.
Swimming also began this week, with CK and Oly (with two KSS swimmers) eyeing the league meets with lofty goals for relay teams. We already know Seth Parker (CK’s 100-yard breaststroke specialist) will be back at state. Now it’s just a question of who will join him as districts wrap up today at Rogers High School (in Puyallup) for CK and at Renton’s Hazen High School for Oly.
Wrestling also is in full swing with Oly headed to Bremerton High for the Oly League Sub-Regional Tourney today at 9 a.m. The Eagles head up to Port Townsend at the same time, while CK heads to the Narrows League Sub-Regional at Foss High School in Tacoma.
Check back next week for a full boys and girls hoops update.
