Port Gamble gears up for summer amid a new normal

Traditionally, summertime in Port Gamble means big festivals like June Faire and Old Mill Days. Though Port Gamble will not be hosting those festivals, the quaint historic town is hoping for a busy summer as Washington State moves through the phases of reopening. Port Gamble boasts great eats, unique shopping experiences, and lot of outdoor activities to fill your summer appetite. We are hoping to see some businesses be able to open with limited capacities as laid out in Washington State’s reopening plan for COVID-19. This still creates great opportunity for supporting the Port Gamble businesses by purchasing items from online stores. Many of the businesses have been offering some great deals in their online lately too.

Olympic Outdoor Center leads the charge in Port Gamble and Kitsap County for outdoor recreation. From kayak rentals and classes to mountain bike rentals, this long-time anchor of Kitsap County has you covered. With many options ranging from hourly to multi-day rentals, you don’t have to be a hardened trail warrior to enjoy the mountain bikes and experiences offered by OOC. The wonderful thing is that it’s so easy. Visit their shop on historic Rainier Ave., rent your bike, and within minutes you’re on one of the best trail systems in the Northwest with 4,000 acres of forestland as your playground.

Port Gamble is still planning for Muddy Paws July 10-12, the Maritime Music Festival on Aug. 8, Summer Faire on Aug. 9, the Port Gamble Ghost Conference Nov. 6-8, and Country Christmas Dec. 12-13. Many of the trail races in the coming months are still scheduled but may be postponed or cancelled.
