Jefferson County plan still hasn’t been approved

On behalf of the Washington Depart-ment of Ecology, I need to correct made a serious mistake in my recent letter (“Shoreline regulations are badly out of date,” May 28).

Ecology has not yet approved the proposed shoreline master program for Jefferson County.

The county submitted their final shoreline master program to us for review.

However, we knew it was critical to hear from the public what thoughts and questions they had about the proposed master program.

Ecology held a public hearing at Fort Worden on April 20 to gather public comment.

We also invited the pubilc to comment on the proposed Jefferson County shoreline master program by mail and email until May 11.

We are currently still reviewing the comments we received at the public hearing and during the public comment period.

As part of the public process, we will prepare a report summarizing the questions we’ve heard and our responses.

Ecology is still reviewing the public comments we heard.

We are also still reviewing the details of Jefferson County’s proposed shoreline master program.

We anticipate making a final decision this fall.
