William Hepler

December 17, 1959 – October 7, 2019

William (“Bill”) Macdonald Hepler, Sr., passed away October 7, 2019, with his family and friends by his side. Born December 17, 1959 in Seattle, WA to Andrew and Sally Hepler, Bill spent his childhood in Seattle and attended Roosevelt High School. He graduated from Washington State University in 1983, serving as a proud member and rush chairman of Phi Delta Theta during his time there. In 1992, Bill and his young family moved to the Port Madison neighborhood of Bainbridge Island, where Bill made his home for his remaining years. As an avid golfer, Bill’s second home was Wing Point Country Club where he and his wife, Karen, spent many an hour challenging each other on the course and socializing with friends.

Those who were lucky enough to meet Bill and experience his kindness and generous spirit are bestowed gifts of great memories, and likely full bellies. Ever the entertainer, Bill was quick to donate his time and cooking skills to support his community. Whether it was elaborate catering at the Bainbridge Island Classic Horse Show, Wilkes Halloween Carnival, Bainbridge High School Football Dinners, or Lacrosse Banquets, Bill was there with a smile and a hot chafing dish of something delicious. Bill also loved inviting people into his home, hosting casual BBQs on the deck, holiday parties, and post-golf tournament blow-outs. Bill’s natural people skills made him a successful salesman and manager. Recently retiring as Market Director for The Core Group, Bill was beloved by clients and employees alike. Bill worked hard, but cared primarily for people—family, friends, or anyone he met.

Bill was a supportive father, a loving husband, and a true champion for his friends and family. Bill is survived by his wife Karen Hepler (her sons David (wife Colleen) and Greg Bigelow), daughter Madeline Hepler and son William (“Willie”) Hepler, Jr. (children of first wife, Mimi Dupar), son-in-law Luke Tjemsland, father Andrew, and siblings John, Andrea, and Richard Hepler, as well as extensive relatives and close friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Sally. Bill was taken from us too soon, but we will all cherish Bill’s friendship, loyalty, generosity, and love.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at noon on November 23, 2019, at Wing Point Country Club on Bainbridge Island.
