Vaughn H. Dorsey, 80

Hansville resident Vaughn H. Dorsey died May 27, 2004 in Poulsbo. He was 80.

Dorsey was born to George L. and Gladis L. (Harris) Dorsey in Dayton, Ore. August 12, 1923.

He married Miriam Laney on Sept. 12, 1948 in Kennewick.

Dorsey graduated from high school, then from Oregon State College in 1950.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945, achieving rank of Tech 4 and was awarded a World War II service medal.

Dorsey worked for Kenworth Trucking for 24 years. He was also a mechanical engineer for Freightliner for 10 years until his retirement in 1989.

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, clamdigging, cooking salmon and bowling. He was a member of the American Historical Truck Society, Society of Automotive Engineers, 36th Division, 141st Infantry T-Patchers, Alumni Oregon State and Toastmasters.

He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seattle.

Dorsey is survived by his wife Miriam Dorsey of Hansville; sons Douglas V. (Christine) Dorsey of Hansville and Marvin L. (Angela) Dorsey of Bloomington, Minn.; daughter Harriet A. (Jerry) Cole of Vancouver; brothers David Dorsey of Ukiah, Calif. and Robert Dorsey of Dayton, Ore.; sister Ruth Culp of Burns, Ore.; and three grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Martin L., Elwin and Norwood Dorsey and sister Rowene Litcher.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. June 19 at the First United Methodist Church of Seattle. An inurnment will take place at the Hansville Cemetery at a later date.
