Stanford William Olsen

Stanford William Olsen was born June 12, 1937 at Olympic Hospital to Karl Stanford and Marie Thelma Olsen. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1956.

Upon graduation he left to go to work in Alaska for Aleutian Cold Storage which began his love for Alaska, from 1956 till 1982. He first worked in cold storages then became a commercial fisherman and cook on fishing boats, including the fishing boat Dean out of Poulsbo.

When not fishing he worked in construction for companies such as Century Construction Co. and Prime. Stanford was a member of Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 252 from March 1964 till his passing.

In 1962 he married June Marie Olsen, his wife and partner of 35 years, until her passing in 1997. Stan loved the outdoors, fishing, camping, and boating where he and his wife’s pastime every weekend. He loved playing cards, country music and cooking. He had a laugh that could be heard across a crowded room and a heart as soft as butter even though he came across as a stern man.

Stanford is survived by his son Dennis Olsen of Bainbridge Island, two brothers, Lawrence Olsen of Port Orchard, David Olsen of Port Townsend, and a sister, Mary Pickens of Suquamish, along with six nieces and nephews.

At Stanford’s request no funeral service will be held. He asked that donations be made to Children’s Orthopedic Hospital in Seattle to help the children and their families through difficult times.
