Sheila K. Bruce

April 8 1935 – May 5, 2021

To us she was Gershee, to everyone else she was Sheila Kathleen Bruce. She grew up with her family on a Ranch outside Newhall, California. We loved her stories, to us they were straight out of a western novel, such fun stories to listen to.

After High School she became a proud member of the first graduating class of Nursing students, at UCLA, receiving her Bachelor of Nursing in 1954. After graduation she fearlessly set sail on the Queen Mary from a European cruise. She traveled Europe extensively seeing all the exotic places. She made many fun memories with every stop and we never tired of hearing those stories either.

She worked in nursing for many years. During this time, she attended USC earning a Master of Psychology. From there she entered nursing administration. She retired after 36 years and traveled extensively around the USA with two fellow nurse friends who had also retired. She then purchased a home on the Puget Sound that had water on three sides. She loved fishing, crabbing and watching the eagles fly around and even land on her bulkhead. She lived there for several years with her friends Rosemarie Pastore and Barbara Roberts.

Sheila had no living relatives but quickly after meeting us she became our Gershee and was adopted into our family. She instantly had a daughter, granddaughters, many grandchildren, and even great-grandchildren. Everyone in her new family admired her for her brilliance, her kindness, and her commitment to the Catholic Church. She was more than a grandma, she was a role model and we will miss her terribly. We will always be grateful and thankful to God for blessing our lives with our Gershee, even if it was for too short a time.
