Roland Malde

Arnold “Roland” Malde died from complications resulting from Supra Nuclear Palsy, a type of Parkinson’s Syndrome on April 2 in Poulsbo. He was 81 years old.

He was born July 23, 1920 in Poulsbo to Rasmus and Annette (Fosen) Malde. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1938.

He worked at the Kitsap County Herald until he volunteered for the U.S. Army in 1940. He served in the 803rd Anti-tank Battalion in Europe until 1945. While serving, he was pressed into service as a bugler. When his fourth bugle was somehow run over by a tank, the Army removed him from the position as bugler.

He married Musa Wagoner in 1951 in Bremerton.

Over the years he worked in the printing business where he did composing for the Silverdale

Breeze, the Kitsap County Herald, the Port Orchard Independent, the Seattle Post-Intelligencer and the Bremerton Sun. He retired in 1981.

He is survived by his daughter Marianne (Michel), Silverdale and grandchildren, Suzanne Boutet, Seattle and Mark Boutet, Silverdale; sisters Alva Joyce, Bremerton and Anita Wildes of Quilcene.

A memorial service was held at Silverdale Lutheran Church on April 5. Memorial donations may be made to The Parkinson’s Disease Association, 1959 N.E. Pacific St., Division of Neurology, RG-27, Seattle 98195.
