Paul D. Brittain, long-time supporter of Central Kitsap/Silverdale Chamber of Commerce activities, died Jan. 15, 2007, in Cashmere, Wash. He had been diagnosed with chronic myelomonocytic leukemia in the summer of 2004.
Mr. Brittain moved to Kitsap County in 1959 and had been highly visible in both his pharmacy profession and involvement with Silverdale’s Chamber of Commerce. He was the recipient of numerous Chamber awards including the Paul Linder award (1995), President’s award (1993), and served on the chamber’s board of directors for four years and as its president in 1979.
He owned Silverdale’s Brittain’s Village Pharmacy, 1979-89, and worked for Group Health pharmacy until moving to Leavenworth.
While living in Kitsap County he worked with Tex Lewis in establishing the Clear Creek Task Force for the restoration of Clear Creek, a project that built five miles of trails through Kitsap’s most active commercial district. The Paul Brittain award was established to recognize volunteers, both individual and companies, involved with the project.
He married Marion Snell 35 years ago and they made their home in the Central Kitsap area until moving to the Leavenworth area in 2000 where he worked as a pharmacist until retiring in August 2006.
Mr. Brittain was born Sept. 16, 1939, in Port Townsend to Paul L. and Olga (Joyce) Brittain. He graduated from Everett High School in 1954, and the University of Washington School of Pharmacy in 1958. He served in the Air National Guard while attending UW, and joined the Air Force, serving from 1961-63.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his children Paul (Tammy) Brittain of Spanaway, LeAnn (Mark) Boardman of Port Orchard, Dean B. (Lisa) Brittain of Tacoma and Steven (Kathryn) Costner of Vienna, Va. A sister, Elaine (Ron) Jasper, survives in Hoquiam. His grandchildren are Beth and Jamee Boardman and Joseph and Allison Costner.
Memorial services will be held at a later date in Silverdale.
