Mildred Louise Whealdon

December 20, 1927 - March 15, 2021

Mildred Louise Whealdon passed away peacefully at her home on March 15th, 2021. She was 93 years old. Mildred was born in 1927 in Estacada, Oregon and grew up in Portland, Oregon. She graduated from Tigard High School and entered Willamette University in 1945. She transferred to Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington and graduated with a degree in education in 1949. She began her teaching career in Ilwaco, Washington where she met her husband John (Jack) Whealdon.

Together Mildred and Jack raised 7 children, settling first in Bellevue, Washington and then moving to Bainbridge Island in 1965. Mildred was a lifelong Chi Omega member and stayed in touch with her ChiO sisters, gathering for reunions and events throughout the Northwest over many decades. Besides raising her children, Mildred had many interests including beekeeping, flower gardening, music and swimming. Mildred was an accomplished pianist and played the organ for Saint Cecilia’s church for many years. She sang in several choir and chorale groups on the island, including the Evergreen Singers Group, which she joined in 2016.

She was a wonderful mother and friend to her seven children —Mary (Rob) Bellingham; Beth (Tom) Summerville, OR; Dan (Lynn) Ilwaco, WA; Tim (Kathy) Littleton, CO; Margaret-Bellingham, WA; Tom (Melody) Bainbridge Island, and Nancy (Robert) Bainbridge Island. She was devoted to her 17 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren. Time spent with her family was one of the greatest joys of her life.

Mildred was preceded in death her husband, Jack; her sister Colleen Marsh; and her granddaughter, Colleen Whealdon-Haught.
