Mary Fujioka, born August 1, 1926 on Vashon Island, passed away of natural causes at Madrona House, Bainbridge Island, on June 9, 2021. The Fujioka family lived on the family berry farm until the Japanese Relocation during WWII when they were taken to the Pinedale Assembly Center, CA, then Tule Lake, CA, and later moved to Heart Mountain, WY. Mary returned to the Seattle area, worked for the VA Hospital, then for 36 years at The Polyclinic, retiring in 1991. She and her sister, Susie, moved to the south end of Bainbridge Island in 1974. Mary was predeceased by her parents, Sadaji and Tsune; brothers: Tashio, Utsurugi, Yukio, Tsugio and George; sisters Susie and Martha; and nephew Dennis. She is survived by several nieces, nephews and extended family. A private gathering will be held at a later date. In honor of Mary’s memory, donations may be made to PAWS of Bainbridge Island.
