Leonardo Bundang, 78

Poulsbo resident Leonardo “Onto” Bundang died Feb. 4, 2005 in Bremerton. He was 78.

He was born to Mariano and Rosa (de Guzman) Bundang in Castillejos, Zambales, Philippines on Sept. 8, 1926.

Bundang married Josefina A. Espiritu on July 3, 1948.

He served in the Philippine Army during the Korean War alongside American military personnel.

Bundang and his wife opened and operated their first bakery in the Castillejos, Zambales region of the Philippines for more than 20 years. After coming to America, Bundang worked as a master baker and bakery consultant for Andrea’s Bakery/Grocery and Restaurant in California for more than 10 years.

He enjoyed fishing and “Sabong” in the Philippines.

He was a Catholic.

Bundang is survived by his son Rolando E. (Annie) Bundang of Kingston; daughters Flordeliza B. (Pol) Sembrano of the Philippines, Rosalina B. (Fel) Ladiero of Vallejo, Calif., Teresita B. (John) Redfearn of Poulsbo, Rosa B. (Lando) Susano of the Philippines, Estrellita B. (Conrado) Besarra of Spanaway and Nannie B. (Rob) Howe of Roy; 25 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Josefine, son Allan and brothers Minyong, Badong, Doming and sister Piling.

Visitation will be held from noon to 6 p.m. Feb. 18, noon to 8 p.m. Feb. 19 and 1-6 p.m. Feb. 20. Each session is at Lewis Funeral Chapel.

He will be cremated at Cherry Grove Crematory.
