John W. Manlove

John W. Manlove, 75

Former Kitsap County resident John W. Manlove died Jan. 3, 2006 in Seattle. He was 75.

He was born on Nov. 23, 1930 to Ruth and John Manlove in Osage, Wyo.

Manlove retired from the U.S. Navy as a 1st Class Diver in 1967 after serving for 20 years.

He then co-founded Divers Institute of Technology (DIT) and went on to build a deep-sea diving school that was known around the world. He sold the school in 1986 but worked there literally to the day of his death.

He also enjoyed many journeys with his friend Michael Champ.

He also did charitable work through the Shriners, Masonic Lodge, and other fraternal associations (Eagles, Elks and Moose). 

Services will be at 10 a.m. Jan. 14 in the auditorium at the Naval Undersea Museum in Keyport.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to DIT-John Manlove Memorial Scholarship Fund, 4315 11th Ave., Seattle, WA 98107.
