James R. Mitchell

James R. “Bob” Mitchell, 83

Poulsbo resident James Robert “Bob” Mitchell died May 12, 2004 in Poulsbo. He was 83.

Mitchell was born to Hoyze E. and Aura Mae (Powell) Mitchell in West Seattle on June 9, 1920.

He married Antoinette “Toni” Ruff on June 7, 1947 in Petaluma, Calif.

Mitchell graduated from high school in 1938 and from the University of Washington in 1947.

He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1942 to 1945, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant in the Pacific Theatre.

Mitchell was employed by Pacific Northwest Bell, then by AT&T in New York and later at Pacific Bell in Los Angeles, Calif., before settling at the Seattle Pacific Bell office as an executive leader. He worked for 32 years before retiring in 1979.

He was a part of the Wing Point Golf and Country Club on Bainbridge Island.

He was a member of St. Olaf’s Catholic Church of Poulsbo.

Mitchell is survived by his wife Antoniette “Toni” (Ruff) Mitchell of Poulsbo; sons James (Jude) Mitchell of Mercer Island, Terry (Karen) Mitchell of Poulsbo, Larry (Eileen) Mitchell of Mercer Island, Dale Mitchell of Bellevue and Randy (Theresa) Mitchell of Poulsbo; daughter Deborah (Jim) Ryan of Bremerton; and 18 grandchildren.

Mitchell was preceded in death by his sister Marjorie Bosserman; brother Eugene Mitchell; granddaughter Shannon O’leary; and niece Sherry Chandler.

A viewing and visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 15 at The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove in Poulsbo.

A Rosary will be held at 10:15 a.m. May 17 at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church in Poulsbo. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. May 17 at St. Olaf’s Catholic Church. An interment will take place at the Poulsbo City Cemetery.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove.
