Ione Torgeson

Ione Torgeson, 95

Ione Torgeson of Poulsbo died Dec. 6, 2004 in Poulsbo. She was 95.

Torgeson was born to James Younger and Edith Davis (Brown) Bates in Minot, N.D. on April 2, 1909.

She married Leo Salo of Pearson in 1926 and later Otis “Pete” Torgeson in 1938.

Torgeson attended Silverdale High School in Bremerton.

The Torgesons built their home in the Poulsbo Junction in 1941 and then started Pete’s Tavern nearby. They later built a commercial building in the same area and operated the I&P Supermarket until selling it in 1948. Later, they operated Torgeson Hardware and Ione’s Apparel. They retired in the 1960s after adding the Red Apple building.

She was a member of First Lutheran of Poulsbo, the Ladies’ Aid, Sons of Norway and the Friendly Neighbors Club.

Torgeson is survived by her daughter Edith Swanson of Tracyton and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Pete Torgeson and son Melo Salo.

Visitation will be held at 2-4 p.m. Dec. 11 at Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Dec. 13 at First Lutheran in Poulsbo. A private burial at First Lutheran Cemetery will precede.
