Helen Marie Lehman was born on October 23, 1928, at the Ballard Hospital, and passed away at her home in Lemolo on May 31, 2018, at the age of 89. Her parents were Walter C. Peterson, and Eva (Kaiser) Peterson.

Helen has one brother, Ted, who was born on her 7th birthday.

Helen attended Adams Jr. High School and graduated from Ballard High School in 1946. She met several lifelong friends in elementary school, including Esther (Hedman) Harem, Margaret (Liljehadl) Wans, Peggy (Sather) Koepp, and Beverly (Hansen) Kristjanson. She learned secretarial skills in high school and was very successful in several administrative jobs after she graduated.

Helen met George A. Lehman, an Army veteran student at the University of Washington, at a dance hall in Kenmore, WA. They married in March 1948, and had three children, David, Paul and Tami. They lived in north Seattle, Richland, WA, Eastgate, WA, then northeast Seattle again. Their final move, in 1975, was to the community of Lemolo, just south of Poulsbo, where she lived the reminder of her life in the house where her husband grew up.

Helen grew up in the Lutheran Church and has been a lifelong servant. She volunteered with the Children’s Home Society and tutored reading in her children’s elementary school. In 1975 she joined the First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo, WA, and was an active member up until a few years ago. She was responsible for memorials for many years, and participated in Bible Study, Quilting, and Ladies Aid. She was most proud of being a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, and was both secretary and president of her chapter.

She was preceded in death by all her extended family except her brother and one cousin, Steve Edgall. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, and her children, David, Paul and wife Linda, and Tami Hoenig and husband Michael. She has nine grandchildren: Alexander, Andrew and Joshua Lehman, Kendra (Lehman) Jones, and Mathew, Daniel, Sarah, Jonathon and Abigail Hoenig, and six great-grandchildren: Brandon Jr., Finn and Lila Jones, Lydia and Marlief Hoenig, and Wyatt Lehman.

Services will be held on June 30th, at 1:00 at the Poulsbo First Lutheran Church.

Memorials are suggested to the Poulsbo First Lutheran Church, the PEO Foundation (PEO Sisterhood), or the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
