Hazel J. Schaffer, 83

Hazel June Schaffer of Bainbridge Island died in Bremerton May 5, 2004. She was 83.

Schaffer was born to Virgil and Beatrice (Beach) King in Portland, Ore. on June 29, 1920.

She married Otto Schaffer on July 13, 1943 in Poulsbo.

Schaffer was a homemaker and worked at the Keyport Naval Undersea Warfare Station in Keyport, where she met her husband, during World War II. She was later self-employed on Bainbridge.

Schaffer enjoyed sewing, crafts and traveling. She was a member of the Bremerton Ladies of Elk.

Schaffer was a member of the Olympic Baptist Church of Edmonds.

She is survived by her sons Ken Schaffer of Seattle and Jack Ring of Kingston; daughter Candice (Randy) Jernigan of Silverdale; sister Jean Steele of Edmonds; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Otto Schaffer in 1974.

Services were held at the Stone Chapel in Poulsbo and the Floral Hills Cemetery in Lynnwood on

May 11.
