George (Sonny) Leonard Olson, Jr.

Nov. 25, 1935 – May 1, 2018

George (Sonny) Leonard Olson, Jr. passed away at his home, in Port Hadlock, on Tuesday May 1st, after a drive with his wife Phyllis, to their favorite State Park, Fort Flagler, on Marrowstone Island.

He was born on November 25th, 1935, at the family home on Gunderson Road in Poulsbo, WA.

George grew up in Poulsbo. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1953. He attended the University of Washington and Olympic College. He served in the US Army from 1955 to 1957, after which he returned to Poulsbo, to work for his father at Fred Hill Materials, until George Sr’s retirement. He worked for and owned car dealerships in Poulsbo and Port Townsend, until his retirement.

George married Phyllis in April of 1978. They were happily married for 40 years. He is survived by his wife Phyllis, of Port Hadlock, WA His Children Mardith Olson-Dye (Paul), Suzanne Olson, Kenneth Olson (Alyson), Melanie Cherry, Craig Vig (Julie), his sister Sandy Walden, and 8 grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Poulsbo’s First Lutheran Church, Thursday May 17th at 2pm, with refreshments following immediately after in the Christian Center.
