Gary Michael Jones, 56

Gary Michael Jones died peacefully Oct. 29 after a valiant battle with a rare form of cancer. He was 56.

Born in Sacramento, Calif., to Maxine Smith and James C. Jones, he attended local Lutheran schools. Jones graduated from Concordia High School and college in Oakland, Calif. and Concordia College in Fort Wayne, Ind.

He received his master’s in business administration from Chapman University.

Jones joined the Navy Submarine Service in 1975 and remained on active duty until his retirement as a senior chief missile technician.

He served aboard the USS Alexander Hamilton and the USS Alaska. He was stationed in the Puget Sound, Holly Loch, Scotland and New Groton, Conn., before retiring from the Trident Training Facility at Bangor.

Upon retirement he joined the civilian work force at the Trident Training Facility and then the Submarine Learning Center in the capacity of supervising program analyst where he remained until his death.

Jones made his residence in Poulsbo where he served for 17 years as a volunteer EMT firefighter.

He also served for 14 years as president and CEO of Viking Fest, as the Washington director of the PT Cruiser Club, and was a member of the American Legion Post 0245.

Jones was also a member of the Sons of Norway Lodge No. 2-044 in Poulsbo.

Jones is survived by his loving wife Marilynn; son, David (Lisa); daughter, Jessica; grandchildren Kelsie and Tyler of Concord, Calif., and Alexis and Ryan of Poulsbo; sister Sandra (Mrs. William Ryder) of Sacramento.

A memorial service will be held Nov. 28 at the First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
