Eileen M. Reid

Dec. 29, 1927 – Aug. 17, 2018

Eileen M Reid passed away on August 17, 2018 from natural causes. Eileen was born on December 29, 1927. She was the daughter of Ben and Margaret (Johns) Harris. She enjoyed her childhood, raised on the family farm in Davenport, Washington. It was there that she developed a life long love of animals. She cared for the farm animals and family pets, and was a dedicated equestrian. Later, in 1952, she acquired a property on the shore of Port Gamble Bay. It was there she and her family spent many camping holidays, harvesting the bountiful clams and oysters, sailing, and enjoying wonderful Puget Sound summers. In 1977, she decided to live full time on Gamble Bay. She built a modest home and happily resided there for nearly all the rest of her life, enjoying and feeding birds and small animals. Eileen served as a member and officer in both the Elks and Sons of Norway. She was always ready to volunteer for and organize fundraisers to meet the needs of the community. She and her life partner Bert also loved to dance, and could be found wherever a good dance band was playing. She danced well into her 80’s.

She also was a dedicated contributor to local animal rescue organizations. It was Eileen’s wishes that any memorial be gifted to the following organizations:

All Breed Equine Rescue. PO Box 442, Snohomish, WA 98291

Paws. 26569 Lindvog Road, Kingston, WA 98346

West Sound Wildlife Shelter. 7501 NE Dolphin Drive, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110

College of Veterinary Medicine. WSU, PO Box 647010, Pullman, WA 99164

Eileen is survived by her son Rolland of Bainbridge Island, WA and daughter Robin, of Commerce, TX.
