Edith Garner

Born April 6,1918 near Woolstock, Iowa, Edith grew up for several years on a farm. Her father died of the flu in 1925 and both of her brothers died before full adulthood. She and her two sisters lived happily with their mom in town, renting out the farm for many years. Edith went to Iowa State Teachers college and enjoyed developing friendships with several women who corresponded with her the rest of their lives. Teaching in Denver Colorado along with her friends, Edith met and married William Boyd Garner. Bill had a small son from a previous marriage. A year later they added Ann Edith to their family. Bill soon went to Presbyterian Seminary and became a minister. Two years later Carol came along then five years later Michael. While the kids were a handful, Edith always said she enjoyed her kids. Besides being a busy helpmate for her pastor husband, she continued to substitute teach while the kids were home. Later she enjoyed volunteer work with LaBach Literacy, teaching reading and also English as a second language. Various health concerns began to mount up in her late 70’s as she enjoyed living independently in Crista Shores, then in the assisted living facilities. She made many friends and participated in numerous trips, tutoring opportunities and family events. After a stroke in 2007 Edith moved to Martha and Mary Health center in Poulsbo. She enjoyed the gardening and painting activities there. She was preceded in graduating to heaven by her husband Bill in 1992. Her stepson is not in contact with the family. The other children and grandkids will miss her and eagerly look forward to seeing her again. Sunshine Ann lives in Idaho with her husband Barry and Carol lives in Poulsbo with her husband Don. Michael lives in Oklahoma with his wife Karen and four children,(Jason, Justin, Jordan and Katie), grandson Craig Price and his wife Hannah of Everett. Edith’s earnest desire was to run and dance in heaven. We are grateful that her prayers were answered. She left this earth tent April 20, 2010 about 7:10 am. In lieu of flowers please consider donations to the gardening program at Martha and Mary Health Center, Poulsbo, WA. 98370
