Earl E. Brockett, 92

Earl E. Brockett of Poulsbo died March 31, 2004 in Poulsbo. He was 92.

He was born to Oscar H. and Minnie D. (Gross) Brockett in Hartsville, Tenn. on Sept. 25, 1911.

Brockett married Alyce C. Berger on May 23, 1939 in Tijuana, Mexico.

He graduated from Hartsville High School in Hartsville, Tenn. in 1929 and took various college courses for the U.S. Navy and appraisal business.

Brockett served in the U.S. Navy from 1929-1959, serving in World War II, Vietnam and Korea, achieving the rank of lieutenant commander. He worked with aircraft carriers and destroyers for 10 years, then worked in the submarine service for 20 years.

After retiring from the Navy in 1959, he worked as a real estate broker and had his own business doing MAI appraisals until 1987.

He was member of the Retired Officers Association (Connecticut), Shrine (Nile Temple in Seattle), Masons (Hansville), Multiple Listing Service (Connecticut), Appraisal Institute & Investment Clubs (Seattle, Port Angeles and Poulsbo) and the Board of Equalization (Clallam County). He enjoyed hunting, fishing and learning as well as working on his beefalo ranch in Port Angeles.

He was a member of Vinland Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.

Brockett is survived by his wife, Alyce C. (Berger) Brockett of Poulsbo; sons Terry E. (Carol) Brockett of Curtice, Ohio, Bruce F. (Donna) Brockett of Eagle River, Alaska and Ralph C. (Penni) Brockett of Port Angeles; brother Oscar “OG” Brockett of Austin, Texas; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Megan and parents Oscar H. and Minnie D. (Gross) Brockett.

Visitation services were held April 3 and 5. The funeral service took place April 5 and the Committal service took place April 6 at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.

Funeral arrangements were under the direction of The Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove Memorial Park in Poulsbo.
