David Warren Sugarman

October 3, 1947 – November 28, 2018

David Warren Sugarman died peacefully at home in Flat Rock, North Carolina on November 28, 2018, holding the hands of his beloved wife and best childhood friend. He gracefully left his body after 71 years of complex medical conditions, the last a pneumonia that he no longer had the energy to fight. Memorial celebrations have been held in Seattle, Washington and Los Angeles, California – the places David lived most of his life. He is survived by his wife, Ellen Williams Sugarman, stepson, Travis Graves, his brother Roger Sugarman, his sister-in-law Lynsey Sugarman, and 8 nieces and nephews. A family memorial is planned in Lexington, Kentucky on the anniversary of his departure.

David, a native Los Angeleno, was a Clinical Psychologist. His career included private practice as well as academic teaching positions. He obtained degrees from Fairfax High School, UCLA, California State University at Long Beach and California School of Professional Psychology. He was driven to help people release themselves from their suffering and never stopped trying to understand the workings of the human mind in service of helping others. He is and will always be missed by those that were privileged enough to stand in his light.
