Capt. Bill R. Rosenquist, 77

Captain Bill R. Rosenquist died April 11, 2004 in Hansville. He was 77.

Rosenquist was born July 22, 1926 in High Point to Charles and Edvarda Rosenquist.

He attended school in Poulsbo.

His love of the sea began when he was a teenager. While still in high school, he became a deckhand on the old steamship Virginia V. After graduating from North Kitsap High School in 1943, he served in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the U.S.S. Crockett, an attack transport ship which participated in the battles in the Philippines and Okinawa. After leaving the Navy, he skippered a cannery tender in Alaska for New England Fish Co., then went to work for himself towing oil barges in Southeast Alaska. He sailed as captain for Washington Tug, Foss Tug, Pacific Western Lines, and Victory Marine. He was also captain for the Alaska Marine Highway System aboard the M.V. Tustemena. He enjoyed sharing his maritime knowledge with others.

Rosenquist is survived by daughter, Marji (Gary) Leonard and three grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held from 1-3 p.m. May 1 at the Hansville Community Center at Buck Lake, 7020 Buck Lake Road.
