Byron Crabtree Jr., 89

Byron Crabtree Jr. of Poulsbo died Jan. 29, 2004 in Poulsbo. He was 89.

Crabtree was born to Byron and Mary Jane (Smith) Crabtree in Crabtree, Ore. on Nov. 12, 1914.

He married Elizabeth Carlson on Nov. 26, 1935.

Crabtree grew up on a house boat in Port Gamble until 1927 and then on a farm on Hansville Road. He attended schools in the North Kitsap School District.

He worked as a longshoreman from 1932 until his retirement in 1968. The couple lived in Eglon until moving to Martha & Mary in Poulsbo in 2001.

Crabtree enjoyed fishing and hunting.

Crabtree is survived by his wife Elizabeth of Poulsbo; son Jerry (Elaine) Crabtree of Eglon; brother Donald Crabtree of Seattle; sisters Doris Thompson of Eglon and Virginia Johnson of Poulsbo; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Dale.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Feb. 2 at the Kingston Christian Church. Pastors Scott Roberts and Duain Sabin will officiate. A graveside service will follow at Eglon Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Eglon Community Center. Arrangements are under the direction of the Stone Chapel at Cherry Grove.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Martha & Mary Health Care Center or a charity of the donor’s choice.
