Barbara L. Sturdivant, 90

Barbara Llewellyn Sturdivant died Jan. 15, 2004 in Poulsbo. She was 90.

She was born to Lester and Lillian (Button) Morrill in Winslow on Bainbridge Island on July 26, 1913.

Sturdivant married Everett Reid Sturdivant on June 25, 1938 at her parents’ home.

She graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1932 and attended Nursing School in Seattle.

The couple lived in Hoquiam until 1949, when they moved to Spokane. When her husband retired in 1977, they traveled extensively throughout the United States, Canada and Mexico. When her husband died in 1987, Sturdivant continued to travel, visiting Russia, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Holland, New Zealand, Australia, the Caribbean, Hawaii and Alaska.

Sturdivant enjoyed playing bingo and pinochle and was an avid salmon and trout fisherman. She was an active member of The Order Of Eastern Star for 56 years and served as the Worthy Matron of Spokane Chapter in Spokane and the Priscilla Chapter in Port Gamble. She was also a member of the Ladies Oriental Shrine and Amaranth.

Sturdivant is survived by her daughter Elaine (Trude ‘Gil’) Gilman Jr. of Kingston; brother Lawrence Morrill of Bremerton; sister Katherine Hughes of Fresno, Calif.; three grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Sturdivant was preceded in death by her husband Everett Reid Sturdivant, brother Lester “Worth” Morrill and son Jay Lee Sturdivant.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Jan. 24 at Liberty Shores, 19360 Viking Ave. NW Poulsbo. Arrangements are under the direction of Kass Funeral Home.
