Weekly grab-and-go meal packs available this summer for youngsters

Selected SKSD school sites will provide meals on Wednesdays

PORT ORCHARD — The federally funded summer lunch program will serve South Kitsap children again, beginning June 23, the South Kitsap School District announced Friday.

Free grab-and-go meal packs will be distributed to students 18 years and younger. The packs will include lunch and breakfast items for five days. Distribution will be on Wednesdays only: June 23 and 30; July 7, 14, 21 and 28; and Aug. 4, 11 and 18. No preorders are required.

The meal packs can be picked up between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. at one of these locations in Port Orchard:

Cedar Heights Middle School, 2220 Pottery Ave.; John Sedgwick Middle School, 8995 SE Sedgwick Road; Marcus Whitman Middle School, 1887 Madrona Dr. SW; and Sunnyslope Elementary, 4183 Sunnyslope Road SW.

The district said additional meal prep items will be included in the packs distributed in July as part of the district’s partnership with Grocery Outlet in Port Orchard.
