Walking up a slippery slope

If it seems like the Poulsbo/North Kitsap Rotary gets a lot of editorial column ink, we assure you, it’s very well deserved. About a decade ago, the civic group pledged a whopping $100,000 to assist higher learning at the then pie- in-the-sky Olympic College branch campus in Poulsbo. In 1993, that was a fortune. It still is.

About a decade ago, the civic group pledged a whopping $100,000 to assist higher learning at the then pie- in-the-sky Olympic College branch campus in Poulsbo. In 1993, that was a fortune.

It still is.

Even so, members made good on their promise recently, bolstering the college’s resolve to locate here and the group’s ongoing commitment of the worthy project.

This is not just another donation. It is a benchmark. Rotarians might recognize this fact and, being a pretty humble bunch, might not. But in one way or another they helped keep the dream of higher education here alive these many years.

The push for the branch campus was virtually all uphill and on a steep and oftentimes slippery grade at that. Yet Rotarians kept the top of the mountain in sight at all times, never lost their wits and above all kept their momentum —even when the entire project seemed to be sliding into the abyss.

Once again, we applaud their vision and thank them for steps they have taken to improve the entire community.
