Volunteers needed to help restore Chico Creek

The heavy lifting is over, but there is still work to be done to help restore Chico Creek.

The heavy lifting is over, but there is still work to be done to help restore Chico Creek.

Last summer, grant funds allowed a portion of Chico Creek at Kitsap Golf and Country Club to be restored to a more natural path. The restoration projected included placing logs and other salmon habitat features to enhance the creek. April is a prime time for planting native trees and shrubs. The new plants provide shade, habitat and other benefits for salmon and other wildlife.

Community volunteers are needed to help complete this phase of the restoration project on the following dates:

• Saturday, April 11 — 8:30 a.m.-noon

• Tuesday, April 14 — 3-7 p.m.

• Saturday, April 18 — 9 a.m.-1 p.m.

• Tuesday, April 21 — 3-7 p.m.
