Two women injured, traffic stopped for three hours following SW Pine Road rollover collision

A rollover crash at the 1100 block of SW Pine Road in South Kitsap injured two women, one seriously.

A 40-year-old Gig Harbor woman was seriously injured in a rollover collision Thursday morning in the 1100 block of SW Pine Road in South Kitsap.

A 2002 Kia Sportage traveling eastbound on Pine, from Sidney Road SW toward Bethel Burley Road SW, crossed the center line at 8:36 a.m., according to a report by Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies.

A 49-year-old Port Orchard woman traveling in the opposite direction swerved her 2004 Chevrolet Aveo to the far right of the road trying to avoid a collision. But the two cars collided on the driver’s side corner of both vehicles.

The Sportage rotated counter-clockwise and rolled into a ditch, landing upright.

South Kitsap Fire and Rescue crews extricated the Aveo’s driver, and she was transported to St. Joseph Mecial Center in Tacoma for further evaluation and treatment.

The driver of the Sportage was taken to the same hospital for evaluation and treatment.

Each driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The report said deputies found evidence that the Sportage’s driver may have been impaired.

The road was closed for three hours following the wreck.
