Two SK High seniors awarded local scholarships

Two South Kitsap High School seniors have been recognized with local scholarships for their leadership, resilience and commitment to community.

Kyle Archer Mangalindan Barias was named the recipient of the 2025 South Kitsap Community Pride Scholarship, while Logan Bouck was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Pat & John Read Pathfinder Scholarship.

Bouck was selected for the first-ever Pat & John Read Pathfinder Scholarship, presented by the South Kitsap Public Education Foundation. He will receive $5,000 for his first year of college starting this fall, with the opportunity to renew the award for up to four years, totaling $20,000 in potential support.

Created by longtime community advocates Pat and John Read, the Pathfinder Scholarship honors students who demonstrate resilience, determination and purpose.

“Logan Bouck exemplifies the spirit of the Pathfinder Scholarship,” a foundation representative said. “His focus, grit and commitment to building a meaningful future make him a deserving first recipient.”

The Reads said they hope the scholarship not only supports Bouck’s academic journey but also inspires future students to pursue a path defined by integrity, learning and service.

Barias earned the $2,000 Community Pride award for his video submission on the impact of social media on students today. In his video, he described how platforms like Instagram and YouTube shaped his academic and social experiences, and how online resources helped motivate him to appeal his initial rejection from the University of Washington, where he will enroll this fall.

The Community Pride Scholarship, created by Doug Miller, owner and designated broker of South Kitsap Properties, honors students who share ideas to strengthen the South Kitsap community. The award supports post-secondary pursuits including college, trade school and community college.

“This scholarship is one of the ways we get to focus on the young people who are shaping the future of South Kitsap,” Miller said. “We look forward to this every year and truly appreciate the opportunity to review so many fantastic submissions.”

Applicants are required to respond to essay questions and submit a video reflecting on their connection to the community.
