Two arrested; car had cash, drugs, guns, stolen public safety equipment

POULSBO — It was 2:45 in the morning Sept. 24 when a Kitsap County sheriff’s deputy working the night shift pulled into Safeway in Poulsbo to get a sandwich.

Someone in the store mentioned in passing that there were two men asleep in a vehicle in the store’s parking garage, that something seemed suspicious about it and that the officer might want to check it out.

In the vehicle, a 2017 GMC Yukon, the deputy saw a small safe “with obvious narcotic and drug paraphernalia visible,” a sheriff’s spokesman said.

The deputy called for backup from the Poulsbo Police Department and the West Sound Regional Task Force.

Officers woke up the two men, who admitted having used heroin. A search of the car revealed a lot more: Officers found two stolen handguns, two stolen fire service portable radios, stolen fire department equipment, body armor, ammunition, two fake badges, more than 30 grams of heroin and methamphetamine, and more than $9,500 in cash.

Bryce Forde Boylan, 31, of Belfair, and Erik David Trogdon, 25, of Port Orchard were arrested without incident and booked into Kitsap County Jail. They were scheduled to be in court on Sept. 25 — Trogdon on a charge of heroin possession and Boylan on charges of heroin possession, unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a stolen firearm and possession of stolen property.

Both were listed on the Kitsap County Jail Roster as of 3 p.m. Sept. 25.

Sheriff’s spokesman Deputy Scott Wilson said Boylan and Trogdon work for a company that inspects and repairs fire hoses. The radios that officers found in Boylan’s rented Yukon are “high-end first-responder radios reported stolen in Pierce and Kitsap County,” Wilson said. One of the handguns was reported stolen from a vehicle in January, the other was reported stolen three days ago in a home burglary. The handguns — Smith &Wesson 9mm and an H&K .45-caliber — are “both semiautomatic and both high-end handguns,” Wilson said.

The rental car was impounded pending further investigation, Wilson said.
