Debbie Cook will never again linger over a morning cup of coffee while gazing out the back sliding door.
Cook was sipping her first cup of the day when she saw something move in her back yard. Something big.
On Friday morning (Oct. 30), 
a towering fir tree came crashing down on her world. It luckily missed Cook but came down through the middle of her manufactured home’s living room.
Just off Sedgwick and Arvick roads and past Banner in South Kitsap, the house also was pummeled by tree branches and other remnants.
“When I saw the tree starting to fall, I started screaming and tried to back away from the door,” Cook said. “I didn’t get far.”
She said “I thought we were goners. It didn’t come all the way to the floor but the tree took out the skylight, destroyed the slider frame and cracked the wall.”
Cook also believes the fallen tree affected a beam underneath the home.
No family members were injured in the incident, she said.
High winds in the area have contributed to electricity outages, especially in Olalla. More winds are expected through the weekend, according to the Weather Service.
As of 12:24 p.m., Puget Sound Energy reported 354 homes were without power.
