The inevitability of change

Some people find change terrifying and some find it challenging. I find it exciting, something new to experience.

There comes a time in a lot of people’s lives when they need to move to a smaller, more manageable place. That’s what happened to my husband and me recently. We decided to move to downsize. At least, that was the plan and “the best laid plans of mice and men often go awry.”

The upshot of this is that we are not moving.

The place I thought I found that was perfect was not perfect for him, and after long discussions we decided we are not moving. New plan: unpack and stay in Hansville. I’m happy to be staying in my home of 20-plus years — so, Hansville, you didn’t get rid of us yet.

Speaking of change, as I write this, the heat has stopped and there is a welcome change in the weather. One reason we like to live here (and I think this applies to a lot of people who live in Western Washington) is that the weather is seldom too hot or too cold. Yes, it rains, but that doesn’t seem to bother us. We still come and go at a good clip, or slowly, whichever fits you best.

Now, about more important things: The Hansville Rummage Sale is scheduled on Aug. 8-9. There is a new rule this year: No dogs at the sale. In past years, there have been dog disagreements that resulted in fights, and some dogs forgot to potty before they came, so no dogs at the sale. For more information, check the Hansville Log at www.hansville.org.

I love this annual sale. You can always find kitchenware, clothing, tools, gardening pots, furniture and lots of other items you just can’t live without. I always look for old-fashioned Corning Ware. I also look for coffee cups with snappy sayings printed on them. (My favorite cup from last year says “Grandma’s Cup.”)

I’ll see you on Aug. 8 or 9.
