The hub of Hansville | Hansville Happenings | June

In every community there seems to be a central meeting place. A place that everyone knows about and is used not only for meetings but also for planned events. In Hansville it’s the Hansville Community Center at Buck Lake.

If you live in the area you’ve heard of the huge rummage sale held at the Community Center each year in August. This year it is Aug. 13-14, and you probably know this whole affair is organized and presented by volunteers. And then you probably know too, about the Hansville Neighbor Luncheons. These delicious meals need a reservation, but for a small cost they are for everyone who is a member of Hansville. The speakers are interesting and sometimes instructive, and the conversations at the tables are always good.

These are only two of the ongoing activities at the Community Center but are you aware that this wonderful building can also be rented for other events?

How about having your next family reunion here? There’s a play area for the kids, room inside for tables and chairs, a kitchen for fixing the food, and there is also a loudspeaker system  that can be used.

Are you in need of a place for a memorial, or a before-the-wedding party, or how about a dress-rehearsal party, or a renewal-of-vows celebration, or how about having a wedding here on the hill in the gazebo overlooking the lake and then retiring indoors for the cake and toasting part of the ceremonial day? And the Community Center has plenty of room for a kid’s birthday party for all ages.

We who live in the Hansville area feel lucky to have this facility for our use. In May the Flotsam and Jetsam Garden Club held its annual garden plant sale (their monthly meetings are the second Wednesday of the month at the Community Center), and Hansville Ladies Aid held their annual fundraiser dinner dance. In June there will be the Community Center Neighbors Lunch, and the Greenway meeting, the community Center Board meeting, Bingo on June 11, and a second Pinewood Derby on June 25. For more details about upcoming events, look at the Hansville.org site and don’t forget to put the July 3 Red, White, and Blue Breakfast on your calendar.

I guess having this Community Center club house might not be a big deal for some, but for Hansville it is not only a social center but a source of information. We’ve hosted pie socials and political panels, and North Kitsap School Board members and many, many other speakers. There’s always something of interest happening.

If you would like to use the Community Center for your event you can call (360) 638-1143, (206) 217-0949 or email rentals@hansville.org. I’ll see you there either as a volunteer or maybe as a guest (if I’m invited.)
