Suspect arrested in South Kitsap school district arson case

PORT ORCHARD — A 16-year-old suspect has been arrested by Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies for burglary and arson after he reportedly gained access to the South Kitsap School District’s kitchen warehouse on Madrona Drive in Port Orchard either the night of April 23 or the morning of April 24.

The suspect also allegedly set fire to a vehicle belonging to the coach of South Kitsap High’s rowing team.

After collecting and processing evidence, and then interviewing witnesses, sheriff’s deputies arrested the suspect at his residence April 25.

He subsequently was booked into the Kitsap County Juvenile Detention Center.

Scott Wilson, Kitsap County Sheriff’s Office spokesman, said detectives are also searching for other possible suspects.

Wilson said detectives want to speak with anyone who may have heard or seen anything concerning the arson incident.
